BIOGRAPHY

Dr. McDonald graduate from the University of Otago, Dunedin New Zealand and received his endodontic education and a Masters degree in Oral Biology, from the University of Maryland at Baltimore.  He serves as a Clinical Professor of Dentistry and the Division Head and Graduate program director of Endodontics at the University of Michigan.
 
His research interests are electronic apex locators, instrumentation systems, endodontic surgery, and clinical trials of local anesthesia .  He has interests in the ethical and legal aspects of endodontics and the use of human subjects in clinical research. 
 
He is a past president of the Phi Chapter of Omicron Kappa Upsilon, the Maryland State Association of Endodontists and is a recipient of the American Association of Endodontists Award of Merit.  He is a Diplomate and current Director of the American Board of Endodontics, a member of the Royal Australasian College of Dentists [Specialist Stream, Endodontics] and is a past president of the Michigan Association of Endodontists.

Description of Research Area(s):

Dr. McDonald is involved with endodontic assessment of apical anatomy and electronic apex locators, both in vitro and in vivo.  He is also involved in clinical trials to assess the outcomes (success, failure) of endodontic surgery.
